“Solitary Confinement #0001”

Something new at the Bootleg Asylum Radio Show starting this week.  Solitary Confinement is going to be a bi-weekly podcast that focuses on one artist/band’s bootleg set only; Up to an hour long.  Episode#1 of Solitary Confinement features the band Led Zeppelin.  Led Zeppelin’s eponymous debut album was released on 12 January 1969, during their first US tour.  The album’s blend of blues, folk and eastern influences with distorted amplification made it one of the pivotal records in the creation of heavy metal music.  This show was recorded 4/27/1969 in the Avocado Club at the Filemore West in San Fansisco, CA. only 3 months after the release of there first album.  Classic ZEP!!

“Flirting With The Hatchet”

This week I high-lite the band Molly Hatchet with songs from there first 2 albums with singer Danny Joe BrownMolly Hatchet is an American southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1975. The band took its name from a prostitute who allegedly mutilated and decapitated her clients. They recorded and released there first album, Molly Hatchet in 1978, followed by Flirtin’ with Disaster in 1979. Danny Joe Brown’s stage persona, gruff voice and cowboy horse-whistling had matched well with the overtly southern-influenced sounds of his era. Danny Joe Brown defined the act to that point, left the band at the end of the 1970s only to return a number of years later.

The Best Damn Band You Will Ever Hear AND The Last!!

This weeks featured bootleg set is from the band Motorhead recorded in Switzerland 1988.  Motörhead are typically classified as heavy metal and their fusion of punk rock into the genre helped to pioneer speed metal and thrash metal. Lemmy dislikes such labels; preferring to describe the band’s music simply as “rock n’ roll“.  Motörhead’s approach has remained the same over the band’s career.  Preferring to play what they enjoy and do best; their appreciation of early rock and roll is reflected in some of their occasional cover songs. Motörhead’s lyrics typically cover such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse, and “life on the road”.

“It’s ALL Gained”

This week on the show I feature the music of Robert Cady. “A person who never makes mistakes, never makes anything”,  says Robert Cady, “I’ll go into this further sometime because I’m tired of explaining my whole shit to people. I’d rather just post it.  I had it in the ”about me” part of MySpace, but people said it wasn’t too ”MySpace friendly” so I took it down. Whenever I would tell the radio stations or internet radio shows people that wanted to play my music, they totally dug it and understood what drives me on this music. Rock ‘n roll isn’t supposed to be pretty; it’s just supposed to rock. And I’m not ashamed of shit.  And have no regrets. I’m over it. If I fucked up on the way, I fuckin learned. And I’ll take any knowledge I can gain any way I can get it.”

“Past Interviews Then, Aired Almost Now”

This week I am featuring 2 interviews that I had back in the fall of 2007 before I started Podcasting my shows. Interview #1 is with Jim “Dandy” Mangrum from the band Black Oak Arkansas. Black Oak Arkansas is an American Southern rock band named after the band’s hometown of Black Oak, Arkansas. The band reached the height of its fame in the 1970s with ten charting albums released in that decade. Their style is punctuated by multiple guitar players and the raspy voice and on-stage antics of vocalist Jim “Dandy” Mangrum.

Interview #2 is with Joe Buck. Joe Buck is the pseudonym of Jim Finkley, an American country and rockabilly musician from Murray, Kentucky. As a solo artist, he is a one-man band called Joe Buck Yourself. His first claim to fame was as the guitarist for The Legendary Shack Shakers. He played all guitar, bass and drums on their 2003 album Cockadoodledon’t. He played bass for Hank Williams III‘s country/hellbilly “Damn Band” and Assjack. He is credited, along with Williams and Andy Gibson, with engineering and producing Williams’ album, Straight to Hell.

“HelldoRadio Standard”

This weeks feature is a band from Buffalo, NY called Double Eagle Standard. Double Eagle Standard is a Grunge/Metal band out of Buffalo, N.Y. Their highly aggressive sound comes from both metal and grunge influences with overtones of several classic rock groups in their solo’s and overall melodic structure. The sound produced tends to be a sweet contrast of both thick muddy riffs and sharp almost harsh nuances. Their stage presence and showmanship as a group is engaging and highly exciting. If a comparison could be made, it might be said that they are blending of the melancholy of grunge with the high energy; high action of metal.

Other artists on this weeks Bootleg Asylum Radio Show include: Chris Walker, Generous Maria, Sasquatch, KritiKal Limit, No Americana, Hank Williams Jr. , Powerman 5000, Choke, Agony Column, Gus Lambros and Electric Mud, Hank Williams III, and more.
